A musician, writer and Hip-Hop pioneer was born in Birmingham, Alabama (Riley-Travellick), where she began her career in 1986…Originally known as Kiddette Fresh; she performed in high school talent shows and city wide competition alongside her two brothers; Legendary rapper Terry “T” Sanders(Bessemer, AL) and Johnny “Hulk” Heckstall who performed with the Birmingham based rap group R.O.A….Tragically both her brothers were killed in separate drive-by shootings, which left her as an artist, undecisive about her place in the Hip-Hop community…..Driven by her love for Hip-Hop she continued working behind the scene with other local artist as a shadow writer, co-producer, DJ and promoter; being influenced by artist such as MC Sha-Rock, Whitney Houston, McLyte, Queen Latifah, Lauryn Hill and many more …It wasn’t until she collaborated with former classmate Tomika “Destruction” Harris, Founder and CEO of Volume Records alongside Moesha “Big Baby” Levert forming the all-female Squad A.O.H; that they together would make their mark in the industry being recognized as one of the first all-female rap group and Independent Minority owned record label from The City of Birmingham… Labeled as an Afrocentric Southern Storyteller most of her accredited works were done as a feature artist…performing with such Artist as Black sheep, Ras Intelligence (Lions’ Den), Nigerian Artist Ras Malcolm, Jamaican Singer Robert Minott, Second tragedy and more….Even making here first mainstream appearance featuring on The 1998 album by Bushwick Bill of the Geto Boys; No Surrender No retreat…..
Known in her community for her work as a youth minister, activist and literacy teacher, Typhine acquired the acronym G-MAH from family, friends and students as show of respect and encouragement, being that most of them honoring her a pioneer and a veteran of Hip-Hop in their city…..
Many ask the question; Why? Now …Why at this age do you continue to create Hip-Hop music? This is her answer, “I was born at The Dawn of Hip-Hop….I was raised in The Era of Hip-Hop …I live The Culture of Hip-Hop ….I will most likely die A Pillar of Hip-hop…So I do what I Love and I Love what I do….I AM Hip-Hop….TyphineGS
